The Eli Broad Art Museum hosted its annual drawing marathon on Wednesday, Oct. 2 on the MSU campus. Students ranging from elementary to college could participate in fun art projects and experiment with new materials. Art teacher Elise Millard’s AP art classes had the opportunity to attend, along with elementary students.
Millard’s students walked downtown together during their second hour. Once they arrived they began to split up, each focusing on different things that interested them. One AP art student, Stella Alfredson (11), enjoyed the freedom of the event.
“Some students toured the Broad or worked on collaborative drawing, while others sketched a live model from observation,” Alfredson said.
From using chalk pastels to making murals of duct tape, students were met with a wide range of activities they could participate in. Ellery Scales (12), was eager to get to try so many different art forms.
“I was so excited about this event because I could try so many projects in such a short amount of time,” Scales said. “We were only at the event from second to fifth hour and usually projects take a week or two in class so it was great to be able to make so many pieces in only three hours.”
The Eli Broad Art Museum has been hosting this event since 2007 as a way to bring the community together and open people’s eyes to new art forms.
“It’s a great opportunity for students and people in the community to be exposed to art and what’s happening at MSU,” Millard said.
