The homecoming dance was held on Saturday, Sep. 20. The student union was filled with starry-themed decorations, reflecting the theme, “Light Up the Night,” chosen by the student council. Every year, the theme of the dance is selected to match the homecoming marching band show. This year, the band’s theme was “Beacons”.
The morning of the dance, student council and parent volunteers helped set up photo ops, fairy lights and window covers. Their hard work paid off when students began arriving at the dance at 7 pm, taking pictures with the carefully set up decorations.
Circles of students, dressed up in formal attire, danced and socialized with their peers. The DJ, set up in front of our Trojan True wall, made the atmosphere lively, playing upbeat songs that students sang along to.
At one point in the night, Noa Wildeboer (11) found herself in the center of a dance circle. She had seen her swim coach, Madelyn Zink, nearby and wanted a chance to dance with her.
“We need to do the worm together,” Wildeboer said. “[I told her], ‘Madi, it’s just like doing the butterfly, but on land.’”
Although Wildeboer ended up with bruises on her chin from the hard floor, she left the night with no regrets.
“Multiple people said the highlight of their night was us doing the worm,” Wildeboer said. “It was worth it.”
