East Lansing varsity boys tennis brought home a win on senior night against Waverly High School on Monday Sept. 23, as their last match on their home courts.
According to Bodhi Alwin (12), this 2025 season is a rebuilding year for the boys after losing many seniors the year prior. In the 2024 tennis season, the boys varsity team made it to states with a long run. This year, the team is working towards rebuilding a foundation in order to win together.
“For us, it’s definitely a rebuilding year. We’ve lost a lot of seniors, but it’s just a process for sure,” Alwin said.
Going into this match, the boys felt confident because of the strong practices they have been having. One of the team’s seniors, Miles Johnston (12), has been working hard in order to succeed this season.
“I try to work really hard in practice and really just give it my all. I always had that mentality but especially this year, I’ve been working really hard to prepare for the upcoming season,” Johnston said.
Looking into the season, Johnston has one big goal for his team.
“We have a lot of new guys, and we had a rough league conference season, so I’d love to see us get a couple more wins at the league tournament,” Johnston said.
As a senior, Johnston wants to soak in the last moments on this team especially because this is his last match on his own home courts.
“I hope us seniors leave behind a legacy. I feel some sort of pride playing here for all the guys that came before me that had a big impact on me. So I hope that I can have that on the younger guys,” Johnston said.
Although this match wasn’t their hardest or most competitive, it was a night to remember the seniors and their last match on their home courts.
