Patrick Spencer (12) and his friends pull up to Bell’s at lunchtime on Monday. They walk in the door, talking and laughing.
Spencer has gone off campus for lunch almost every day since he was a junior. His favorite places to go with friends are all located on Grand River. Bell’s, Tasty Twist, and McDonald’s are his top three favorite lunch spots.
“Honestly, my favorite thing is not exactly the food, but I like to save money,” Spencer said. “[At] all these places, I can eat and my friend can eat [without] spending that much money because we’re all lazy. No one wants to sit in the [lunch] line and go get food, but also nobody wants to spend $14 a day.”
Between spending time with friends and getting something good to eat, Spencer thinks eating off campus is a great option for schools.
“I think it is important you get out of here for a little bit. A lot of people need some fresh air too. Sometimes I’ll just drive and not even get anything,” Spencer said.
Grace Papineau (12) also enjoys going out to lunch whenever she can. Like Spencer, Papineau is fond of Bell’s Pizza.
“We go there all the time.,Something about it that I really like is that the owners and the workers know us,” Papineau said.
Papineau and her friend Sophia Skrotski enjoy going to lunch together anytime from twice a month to twice a week. Another of their favorite spots is Big Apple Bagels, which is a staple among many students.
Papineau also believes that off campus lunch is a great option to have.
“I think it’s really nice because it makes a break during the day, and I think it teaches a lot of a lot about responsibility and maturity,” Papineau said.
