The East Lansing student section will host the pre-game paint out at the back practice field before the football game on Friday, September 27 at 5:45 p.m.
As of last year, the paint-out football game became a school-sponsored event. According to the sponsors, it became organized, supervised and assigned to a designated space to ensure a fun and clean environment. Its goal is to become a better-functioning event that will make it easier for students to have fun and leave the environment cleaner.
Student section advisor and East Lansing math teacher Maggie Moore helps to make this event possible by providing helpful insight on how to prepare.
According to Moore, students need to bring washable, non-acrylic or spray paint that fulfill dress code requirements and that they’re not afraid to throw away after the event.
To Moore, the greatest responsibility of paint out is making sure all of the rules are followed.
“Last year, we thought everyone did an awesome job,” Moore said. “Administrators were pleased, superintendents were pleased, it was really great.”
According to Moore, one thing that will change this year compared to past years is the clean-up process.
“We’re going to provide tons of baby wipes so they can clean their hands and faces, we will have paper towels out there just to make sure that everything is off,” Moore said “We will have some dry time so we’re just going to hang out for a little while.”
Another difference is that students will be required to show their GoFan pass in order to enter the activity.
Student section leader Caroline Kirschner (12) looks forward to the paint-out theme every year.
“It’s a fun way to get messy and to show school spirit,” Kirschner said. “It is a fun tradition and it promotes unity.”
Paint-out is a colorful tradition full of many fun memories and experiences for high school students every year. It creates a fun environment and an extra cheerful student section.
“It is a privilege, not a promise,” Moore said.
